Tinker Hatfield’s 3rd sneaker with Nike in collaboration with Michael Jordan is an historic silhouette for numerous reasons.

The retro Jordan 5 “Fire Red” and “Black Metallic” are the two original colours which were released in 1990, following after the Jordan 5 “Grape” as well as the “Fire Red” being released again but this time with Jordan's number 23 stamped to the heel counter.

In later years, the Jordan 5 Low was introduced in Women’s sizing with a white and silver hue, reminiscent of the White Metallic Jordan 5 colourway. Today, Jordan 5 Retro sneakers come in full family sizes, unlike Women’s exclusives such as the blue suede Nike Air Jordan 5 “Bluebird”.

Historic partnerships spiked the Jordan 5 in popularity by working in collaboration with Supreme, Off-White and even The Fresh Prince of Bel Air TV series to release some of the most limited edition Air Jordan 5 sneakers on the market, not only in Australia but the rest of the world too.

Will Smith rocked several Air Jordans during his casting on the popular 90s show, but the Air Jordan 5 “Grape” historically was known to be his signature sneaker because of the way he liked to wear them without laces. This point of difference was turned into a real concept with the laceless design being released in 2018, titled the Jordan 5 “Grape Fresh Prince”.

New colourways and designs continue to release with hues such as the Blue Jordan 5 “UNC” being a fan favourite pair because of their soft baby blue leather combination with an icy translucent outsole which blends perfectly together against the black midsole construction.

Staying on the theme of recent Air Jordan 5 models, the Jordan 5 SE “Craft” is an addition to the variety of fresh colour blockings in 2023, taking inspiration from the Jordan 1 Low SE Craft. 

Covering the uppers with grey suede, a crispy white midsole stands out against the shade perfectly to give the orange accents behind the AJ5s padded tongue an orange aflare.
